DTF Transfers UK: Who They Are For

Ready-made transfers let you decorate garments yourself without investing in a printer, film, powder and a curing oven. You send the artwork, we print and cure it, and you press it when you need it. That suits:

  • Small clothing brands that want to print on demand rather than hold printed stock
  • Print shops and decorators who already own a heat press and want to add full-colour work
  • Etsy and online sellers producing personalised items in small batches
  • Schools, clubs and teams pressing their own logos onto uniforms and kit
  • Crafters and hobbyists working on tote bags, hoodies, aprons and cushions
  • Businesses refreshing staff wear as new starters join

What DTF Printing Is

DTF stands for direct-to-film. Your design is printed in full colour onto a PET film, backed with a white ink layer so the colours stay bright on dark fabric, then coated with a hot-melt adhesive powder and cured. When you heat press the film onto a garment, the adhesive bonds the print into the fabric. Once it cools, you peel the film away and the design stays behind. The finished print is vivid, stretchy and built to cope with regular washing.

For a deeper look at the process and how it compares to other methods, see our page on DTF printing explained.

What a DTF Gang Sheet Is

A DTF gang sheet is one sheet of film filled with as many designs as will fit. That might be a single logo repeated 40 times, or 15 completely different designs mixed together. You pay for the sheet rather than for each design, so it is the most efficient way to buy transfers when you need several sizes, several logos or several customers' orders at once. Mixing designs on one sheet is exactly what ganging is for.

Sheet Sizes

Size Dimensions Typical use
A4 210 × 297mm Testing a design, left-chest logos, small runs
A3 297 × 420mm Mixed logos alongside one or two back prints
Large 550 × 1000mm Production runs, fitting the most designs per sheet

Not sure which size you need? Send us your designs, the print sizes and the number of each, and we will tell you which sheet fits them best. Pricing is by quote, with trade and repeat-order rates available.

Compatible Fabrics

DTF transfers work on cotton, polyester and blends, as well as canvas and denim, and on both light and dark colours. That covers most t-shirts, hoodies, sweatshirts, polos, tote bags and workwear. Some heat-sensitive fabrics, including certain nylons, need extra care, so please ask before pressing onto anything unusual.

Preparing Artwork for Gang Sheets

  • File format: PNG with a transparent background at 300 DPI.
  • Size to print dimensions. Set each design at the exact width it will be pressed, so a left-chest logo might be 80 to 100mm wide and a back print much larger.
  • Leave spacing. Keep at least 5mm between designs so each one can be cut out cleanly.
  • Remove backgrounds. Anything that is not transparent will print, including white boxes around logos.
  • Avoid ultra-fine detail. Very thin lines and tiny text can be hard to transfer and weed cleanly.
  • Let us gang it. You can build your own layout, or send the individual designs with quantities and we will arrange them efficiently, usually fitting more per sheet than a DIY layout.

If you are not sure your files are ready, send them anyway and we will flag any issues before printing.

How to Press Your Transfers

Every order comes with pressing settings, and you should always follow the instructions supplied with your order. As a general guide for our transfers:

  1. Heat your press to 150 to 160°C. The exact setting depends on the garment, which is why we include settings with every order.
  2. Pre-press the garment for 3 to 5 seconds to remove moisture and flatten creases.
  3. Position the film print-side up on the garment.
  4. Press for 10 to 15 seconds at medium-firm pressure.
  5. Cold peel. Let the film cool completely, then peel it away smoothly.
  6. Post-press for 5 to 10 seconds with parchment over the print for maximum wash durability and a matte finish.

A heat press is required, because a household iron cannot deliver even heat and pressure across the design. Small craft presses are fine for smaller transfers. For a full step-by-step walk-through, read our guide to applying DTF transfers.

Troubleshooting Common Problems

Problem Likely cause Fix
Film will not release Peeled while warm Wait until fully cool. Cold peel means cold.
Print cracks after washing Under-pressed or no post-press Increase time or pressure and always post-press
Edges lifting Low or uneven pressure Check the platen and keep seams and zips off the edge
Shiny patches No parchment on the post-press Use parchment or a Teflon sheet
Dull colours on dark fabric Fibres pushing through the print Slightly more pressure and a longer pre-press

Durability and Wash Care

Pressed and washed correctly, DTF prints typically last 50 to 100 washes. Wash at 30°C, inside out, with no fabric softener, and avoid ironing directly over the print. Our article on how long DTF prints last explains what affects lifespan and how to get the most from every garment.

Storing Unpressed Transfers

Unpressed transfers keep for 6 to 12 months if they are stored flat, somewhere cool and dry, and out of direct sunlight. Do not fold or roll them. The flat packaging they arrive in is the best place to keep them until you press.

How to Order

  1. Send your artwork by WhatsApp or email, with the sheet size, quantities and print widths. If you would rather we build the gang sheet, just list the designs and how many of each.
  2. We check the files and send a free proof of the layout.
  3. Approve the proof and quote.
  4. We print, powder and cure your sheets.
  5. Your transfers are packed flat and sent to your address.

Quantities and Repeat Orders

There are no minimums, so a single A4 sheet to test a new design is fine. Many customers start with a small test, check the result on their own garments, then move to A3 or large sheets for production. If you reorder the same designs regularly, tell us and we will keep your layout on file to make repeat orders quicker. Trade and repeat-order rates are available on request.

UK-Wide Delivery

We supply DTF transfers UK-wide. Your sheets are packed flat to protect the film and sent with DPD, Royal Mail, Parcelforce or our relay parcel service, whichever suits the size of the order. We deliver to customers across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, from print shops in Leeds and Coventry to clothing brands in Glasgow, crafters in Exeter and teams in Belfast and Aberystwyth.

DTF Gang Sheet FAQs

Are your DTF transfers hot peel or cold peel?

Cold peel. Let the film cool completely before peeling for the strongest bond and the cleanest release.

What fabrics can I press DTF transfers onto?

Cotton, polyester, blends, canvas and denim, in light or dark colours. Ask us first for heat-sensitive fabrics such as some nylons.

How long do DTF transfers last once pressed?

Typically 50 to 100 washes when pressed correctly and washed at 30°C inside out with no fabric softener.

Do I need a heat press?

Yes. A household iron cannot provide even heat and pressure. Small craft presses work well for smaller transfers.

Can I mix different designs on one gang sheet?

Yes. That is the whole point of a gang sheet. Send us your designs and quantities and we can lay them out for you.

Is there a minimum order or setup fee?

No. There are no minimums and no setup fees, so you can order a single A4 sheet to test a design.

Do you offer trade pricing?

Yes. Message us about trade and repeat-order rates.
