Personalised Hoodies UK: Custom Printed Hoodies for One Person or a Whole Group

Personalised Hoodies UK: Custom Printed Hoodies for One Person or a Whole Group

A hoodie is the garment people keep. T-shirts wear out, jumpers shrink, but a good hoodie turns into the thing worn on every cold morning for years. That makes it the best canvas for personalisation: the design is seen often, washed repeatedly and remembered. FabricForge prints personalised hoodies in full colour from a single item upwards, and sends them with DPD, Royal Mail, Parcelforce or our relay parcel service. This page explains what to choose, how to lay out a design and how to avoid the mistakes that spoil a good hoodie.

Who orders personalised hoodies

People order for very different reasons, and the reason decides the design.

Individuals who want something of their own

A name, a joke, a photograph or a favourite phrase. These are the simplest orders and the most personal. One hoodie, one design, one mockup.

Friends and groups

Hen and stag parties, birthday weekends, friendship groups and clubs often order matching hoodies with different names on the back. For organising the list, see group order T-shirts and hoodies.

Teams and clubs

Sports clubs, societies and gaming squads want a shared look with individual details. For kit-style orders, see sports team kit printing.

Leavers and graduates

School and university leavers are the biggest hoodie buyers of the year. Our pages on school leavers hoodies and graduation hoodies deal with the details.

Businesses

Staff and brand hoodies are covered separately on branded hoodies for business.

Print positions on a hoodie

A hoodie has more surface than a T-shirt, and a few more choices.

  • Centre chest. The classic. Good for slogans and artwork up to a medium size.
  • Left chest. Small and tidy, often used for a name or a logo.
  • Back print. The favourite for names, group lists and large artwork.
  • Sleeve. A short word, year or number down one arm.
  • Hood. A tiny detail on the back of the hood is an unusual finishing touch for confident designs.

A kangaroo pocket at the front limits low prints. Keep the artwork above the pocket line on the front, and use the back for anything large.

Fit, sizes and colours

Adult sizes run from S to 5XL, with an oversized fit from S to 3XL, and children's sizes from 3 to 16. Oversized is the popular modern cut: relaxed, roomy and flattering across different body shapes. If you are buying as a gift, check a hoodie they already like, and choose the larger of two sizes. We print on 14 colours; black, navy, charcoal, forest green and sage are the most worn, while white and pale grey suit bold artwork. Our guide to custom hoodies covers fit and fabric in more depth.

Designs that work, and ones that do not

Hoodies reward restraint. A single idea well placed beats a crowd of elements. Strong designs include a name in thick lettering on the back, a single illustration on the chest or a short quote across the shoulders. Weaker designs cram text, icons and borders together, or use very thin lines that disappear on textured fabric. Contrast matters: light artwork on dark hoodies, dark artwork on light ones. If you are not sure, ask us to show your artwork on two colours in the mockup; it costs nothing to compare.

Names and numbers

For group orders, the usual layout is the group name or logo on the front and individual names on the back. Send names spelt exactly as they should appear, with the size for each person. If numbers are involved, say whether they are shirt numbers or just for decoration. Our guide to name and number printing covers fonts and placement.

Using your own artwork

We print the file you send. A PNG with a transparent background or a PDF at high resolution works best. We resize and position it, but we do not design from scratch. If you do not have artwork, a freelance designer or an online design tool can make a file, and we will take it from there. The artwork setup guide explains what a good file looks like.

How to order

  1. Tell us what you want: design idea, quantity, sizes and the date it must arrive.
  2. Send artwork as a PNG or PDF, plus any names and sizes in a single list.
  3. We confirm the details and take payment before preparing the mockup.
  4. You review the mockup and may ask for up to five rounds of changes.
  5. Once approved, we print and dispatch. Next-day UK delivery is possible after approval, depending on the time of day.

How long a printed hoodie lasts

A DTF print on a hoodie is flexible and durable when the garment is looked after. Wash it inside out at a low temperature, avoid a hot dryer and do not iron directly on the print. The page on how long DTF prints last explains what to expect in more detail, and the care guide sets out the steps.

Gift hoodies

A personalised hoodie is a gift that gets used. Check the size with someone who knows, avoid private jokes only you will understand, and choose a colour already in the recipient's wardrobe. For specific people, see gifts for him and gifts for her.

Common mistakes

The same few problems cause most disappointments. The wording is changed after the mockup is approved. A name is misspelt. The artwork is too small to read from a distance. The size was guessed. The deadline was unrealistic. Each of these is avoidable with a short checklist: read every name aloud, confirm sizes, check contrast, and allow a few days either side of the date you need.

Planning a hoodie for a special date

Many hoodie orders are tied to a date: a birthday weekend, a graduation, a leaving party or a holiday. Work backwards from the day and allow time for sizes to be confirmed, for the mockup to be approved and for delivery. A common error is leaving size collection until the last week, then discovering that three people are between sizes. Collect sizes early, offer an oversized option and decide in advance what happens if someone wants to change their mind after the mockup is approved.

Choosing between a hoodie and a zip-up

Pullover hoodies are the default and suit most designs. A front print works well on a pullover, as long as it sits above the pocket. If you need to wear the hoodie open, a design on the back is a better choice. Think about where the garment will be worn: an indoor office wants a quiet design, while a festival or sports day suits something louder. Whichever you choose, make sure the design still reads well when the hood is up, since most hoodies spend part of the day that way.
