What to do when your pet dies (UK): a gentle, practical guide

In the first hours, there's no rush and no single right way. If your pet died at home, your vet can advise on next steps — most practices will help with cremation arrangements even if they weren't involved at the end. You can choose communal cremation (no ashes returned), individual cremation (ashes returned to you), or home burial in your own garden, which is generally permitted in the UK for the property where you live. Pet crematoriums will talk you through options without pressure. Take photos of anything you might want to keep — their tag, collar, favourite spot — and don't let anyone hurry you into decisions about belongings. Many owners find that arranging a small keepsake or gathering in the weeks after gives the loss somewhere to go.

Pet memorial ideas: ways people remember

  • A photo keepsake — a canvas on the wall, a collage board for a shelf, a card for a wallet, a bookmark for the everyday.
  • A garden spot — a planted rose or shrub, a stone, a bench plaque; a foam board can mark an indoor gathering before it's placed.
  • A wearable memory — their photo or paw print on a hoodie or t-shirt; some owners frame their pet's bandana.
  • A shared tribute — a QR code on a keepsake linking to an online gallery of photos and videos (we can add one discreetly to any memorial piece).
  • Marking anniversaries — many owners order a small keepsake for the first anniversary or their pet's birthday, when the loss resurfaces quietly.

What to write in a pet sympathy card

Keep it simple, name the pet, and don't minimise the loss. Lines that land gently: "I'm so sorry you've lost Bella — she was such a happy little soul"; "Thinking of you — Max was lucky to have you"; "I know how much she meant to you. I'm here whenever you'd like to talk." Avoid "it was just a cat/dog" framings and immediate "will you get another?" questions. A favourite memory of the pet — even one line — is often the most treasured thing you can write.

The Rainbow Bridge

The "Rainbow Bridge" poem — beloved at pet memorials worldwide — was written in 1959 by Edna Clyne-Rekhy, a Scottish teenager grieving her Labrador, Major; her authorship was only confirmed in 2023 after decades of anonymous circulation. Because the poem remains under copyright, we reference it rather than reproduce it, and we're glad to help you choose a short personal tribute inspired by it, or other gentle wording, for any keepsake.

Choosing a sympathy gift for someone who's lost a pet

A card suits the first days; a keepsake — a bookmark, a small canvas — often lands most tenderly weeks later, when other messages have stopped. If you have a photo of their pet, we can make something quietly beautiful from it; if you're unsure what's right, message us and we'll suggest options honestly, including when something smaller is the better choice.

Pet Carrier Hoodie

An oversized, cosy hoodie with a built-in front pouch, so you can carry a small cat or dog hands-free while staying warm yourself. Available in Grey, Black and Beige.

How it works

  1. Tell us about your pet. Share a photo, their name, and any details you'd like included — by WhatsApp, email or phone.
  2. We design it for you. We'll put together a free proof and revise it as many times as you need until it feels right.
  3. We print and deliver. Once you're happy, we print and post it, with next-day delivery available UK-wide.

Losing a pet unexpectedly?

We know pet loss often comes suddenly, and you may need something ready quickly — for a small gathering, a keepsake before a cremation, or simply to have something in hand sooner rather than later. If you're working to a short timeframe, message us as soon as you can and we'll always try to prioritise your order. In some cases, same-day turnaround may be possible depending on your location and what you need — just ask.

Add a Lasting Tribute

Many pet owners choose to include a discreet QR code on a memorial card, bookmark, or foam board. Anyone who scans it can view photos, videos, or an online tribute page dedicated to your pet — a simple way to keep their memory easily shareable long after the keepsake is made.

If you'd like to include one, just let us know and we'll take care of everything.

Frequently asked questions

What can you make to remember a pet?

We offer a personalised pet bandana, memorial card, memorial bookmark, memorial foam board and memorial canvas, each printed with your pet's name, photo, or design. We can also discuss other custom memorial keepsakes on request — just message us with what you have in mind.

Do you deliver UK-wide?

Yes, we deliver next-day anywhere in the UK.

Do you offer same-day delivery?

In some cases, yes — it depends on your location, order, and how early in the day you get in touch. If you're on a tight timeframe, message us straight away and we'll always try to find a solution, though we can't guarantee same-day for every order.

Can I see a design before it's printed?

Yes. Every order includes a free proof, and we offer unlimited revisions until you're happy — nothing is printed until you approve it.

Is there a minimum order?

No. A single bandana or keepsake is just as welcome as a larger order.

Can you print the Rainbow Bridge poem on a keepsake?

The poem is under copyright (its author, Edna Clyne-Rekhy, was confirmed in 2023), so we reference it rather than reproduce it — and we'll gladly help you choose a short personal tribute inspired by it instead.

What photo do I need for a memorial print?

The original from your camera roll — not a WhatsApp forward or screenshot, which are heavily compressed. For old printed photos, scan at 600 DPI. We check every image and tell you honestly if it won't print well.

How do I get started?

Message us on WhatsApp, call, or email with a photo of your pet and any details you'd like included. We'll take it from there.
