Leavers Hoodie Design Ideas for Year 6, Year 11 and Year 13
A leavers hoodie has three places to print — the front, the back and the sleeves — and each does a different job. The front says who you are, the back says who you were together, and the sleeves carry the small details people notice up close. This page collects the design ideas that year groups ask us for most, so you can pick a direction before you message us for a proof.

Front Design Ideas
The front is seen first and photographed most, so it should be simple and readable from across a room.
- “Leavers 2027” with the school name — the default for a reason. Clear, timeless and easy for a big group to agree on.
- The school crest with “Class of 2027” — smart and traditional. Check with the school that you may use the crest.
- A small left-chest design — just the year or initials over the heart, leaving the back to do the talking. Popular with sixth formers who want something subtle.
- A year-group motto or inside joke — a short phrase only your year will understand. Keep it kind and keep it to a few words.
- The town or postcode — a growing trend: the school's area name in bold college-style lettering.
Back Design Ideas
The back is where every leaver sees their own name, so it carries the emotion. Ideas that work well:
- Large year numerals filled with names — a big “27” with every name set inside the digits. Works best for small to medium groups.
- Names in columns under the year — the clearest layout for large year groups, with every name the same size.
- A shape that means something — the school building outline, a map of the town or the school logo, with names arranged inside it.
- Form-by-form blocks — names grouped by form or house, each block with its own small heading.
- Staff included — a small line at the bottom thanking form tutors or listing teachers' names.
Not sure how many names will fit? Our free leavers hoodie name list builder counts names, finds duplicates and spots the longest names before you send the list.
Sleeve and Small Detail Ideas
- Each person's own name or nickname on the sleeve, so every hoodie is personal even though the back is shared.
- Years at the school, such as “2020–2027”, down one arm.
- Form or house name on the opposite sleeve.
- A tiny icon — a star, a heart, the school mascot — near the cuff.
Ideas by Year Group
Year 6 and P7
Primary leavers suit bright, friendly designs: a cartoon-style year number, the school mascot, or “Off to big school” on the front. Keep names in a simple list so younger children can find themselves easily. Our Year 6 and P7 guide covers sizing and parent organisers.
Year 11
The biggest groups and the widest range of tastes. Bold, high-contrast designs with nicknames on the back are the classic Year 11 look. A vote on two or three mock-ups usually settles the style quickly.
Year 13 and Sixth Form
Older leavers often want something that looks less like a school item: college-style lettering, a small chest design, and a cleaner back with names in neat columns. These are the hoodies most likely to go to university with them.
Nickname Ground Rules
Nicknames are the most loved part of a leavers hoodie and the part most likely to go wrong. Agree a few rules before collecting them:
- Each person chooses their own nickname, or confirms the one suggested for them.
- Nothing unkind, nothing rude, nothing about appearance.
- Nothing that would embarrass someone in five years' time.
- The organiser has the final say and can quietly swap a nickname for a real name.
Fonts and Lettering
College-style block letters, script fonts and simple sans-serif fonts are the three families most groups choose from. Block letters are the easiest to read on a busy back; script fonts look lovely for a short phrase but get hard to read when used for a long list of names. Whatever you pick, one font for the names and a second for headings is plenty.
Using the School Crest or Logo
Many schools are happy for leavers to use the crest, but some have rules about it. Ask the school office before you send it to us. If you can, send the crest as a high-quality file (PDF, SVG or a large PNG); a photo of a blazer badge will not print sharply.
Picking the Colour
Some designs suit some colours far better than others. Our leavers hoodie colours guide explains print contrast, popular combinations and how to run a quick colour vote.
Design Questions
Do we need a finished design to get a quote?
No. A rough idea is enough. Describe it, or send a sketch or an example photo, and we will set it up and send a proof.
How many names can fit on the back?
It depends on the layout and name lengths. Columns fit the most; names inside the year numerals suit smaller groups. Send your list and we will advise.
Can each hoodie have a different sleeve name?
Yes. The shared design stays the same and each person's name or nickname goes on their sleeve. List them clearly next to each size.
