Gender Reveal T-Shirts: Matching Family Tops, Colour Reveals and Photo-Day Ideas

A gender reveal is one of the few parties built around a single moment, and the clothes can make that moment look planned and joyful in the photographs. Printed T-shirts help in two ways. They let the whole family join in with a matching look, and they can carry the reveal itself, so a guess is confirmed in the way the guests see it. This page covers design ideas, how to handle the secrecy of the result, planning for family groups with children and relatives of all sizes, and timing the order around the party date. FabricForge prints from one item upwards, and parcels leave by DPD, Royal Mail, Parcelforce or our relay parcel service.

Two ways to use T-shirts at a reveal

Guessing tops

Before the reveal, guests wear tops that show their prediction. "Team Pink" and "Team Blue" are the classic pair, but there is plenty of room for more personality: "Team Bow" and "Team Bowtie", "Princess or Prince", or something that suits the parents' sense of humour. Guests choose a side, wear the matching colour and the room visibly divides into two friendly teams. It adds energy to the party and makes the group photograph interesting before the result is known.

Reveal tops

The second option is a top that carries the answer. Parents, siblings or grandparents wear a plain-looking top, and the reveal happens when they turn around, pull a layer off or open a jacket. The design underneath says it plainly: "It's a boy" or "It's a girl", with a date or a nickname. These work well for short video clips and photographs, because the moment is visual and instant.

Keeping the result secret

Secrecy is the practical heart of a reveal order. If the result is known only to a sealed envelope, a doctor or a friend, the tops need to be ordered without the parents learning the answer. A sensible approach is to have the person who holds the result place the order directly with us and ask for the reveal tops to be sent to them, not the parents. We can keep the design details between us and that person, and the parents receive nothing until the day. For guessing tops, which do not depend on the result, the parents can order as normal.

If you want both kinds, order the guessing tops first, and add the reveal tops once you know. Plan the timeline so the second order has enough time before the party. Next-day UK delivery is possible after the mockup is approved, depending on timing, but allow a safe margin.

Design ideas

  • Pink and blue team sets. Bold, simple text on a white or neutral shirt, with the team colour in the print. Easy to read in group photographs.
  • Sibling announcements. A child wearing "I'm going to be a big sister" or "Big brother" with a small detail that hints at the date.
  • Grandparent tops. A discreet, proud design for grandparents-to-be, with a title they will wear for years, such as "Grandad in training".
  • Bump photo designs. A scan or photograph, used carefully, can sit on the chest of a parent's top. See photo T-shirt printing for what makes a photo print well.
  • Date-based designs. A simple "Due" followed by a month, or a countdown, for parents who want a keepsake.

Colour choices and photographs

Reveal parties are heavily photographed, so think about how colour behaves in pictures. White and pale tops reflect light and make skin look bright, and they show print colours accurately. Dark tops look dramatic but can disappear in poor light. Pastel pink and blue can wash out in bright sunshine, so a stronger tone often photographs better. DTF printing includes a white layer, so pale ink shows clearly on dark garments, but contrast still decides legibility. Ask for your design on two colours in the mockup if you cannot decide.

Sizes for a whole family

A reveal brings together babies' parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins, and it is common to order for twenty to forty people. Adult sizes run from S to 5XL, oversized from S to 3XL, and children's from age 3 to 16. For very young children below three, a printed top may need a different garment, so message us the ages and we will tell you what is practical. Collect sizes in a single list, set a deadline and ask everyone to confirm by a given date. Our group order guide explains a list system that avoids mistakes.

Pregnancy tops for the parent-to-be

A top that fits a growing bump needs to be comfortable and not tight. The oversized cut, with extra room through the chest and body, is a favourite for expectant parents, and a stretchy cotton blend suits it. A simple message across the front is enough, and a keepsake top for the day is a lovely thing to look back on. Check the size with care, and choose the larger of two sizes if you are unsure.

Timing the order

Parties are fixed in the calendar, so work backwards. Decide the design, collect sizes, approve the mockup and allow for delivery. If the result arrives late, which can happen when a scan or a test date is close to the party, plan a quick second order for the reveal tops only. Keep your messages short and clear so there is no confusion about the schedule.

After the party

Printed tops make good keepsakes. Wash them inside out at a low temperature and avoid a hot dryer, and they will last long enough to be worn by siblings and family for years. The care guide sets out the steps.

How to order

  1. Message us with the type of top, the number of people, the colours and the party date.
  2. Send any artwork, names and sizes, and tell us if the result must stay secret.
  3. We confirm the details and take payment before building the mockup.
  4. Check the mockup; up to five rounds of changes are included.
  5. When you approve, we print and dispatch.

Outdoor reveals and weather

If the party is in a garden or park, think about the weather. A hoodie over a reveal top keeps the secret and keeps guests warm until the moment arrives. In summer, light cotton tops keep everyone comfortable in the sun, and a pale colour reflects heat. Check the forecast and keep a plan for indoors, because the clothes should look as good in the rain as in sunshine.

Keepsakes for the baby

After the party, many families keep one top as a memory, framed or folded in a box. Choose a size the person can still wear, and avoid too much detail that might date. A simple line and a date are easy to treasure years later. A small child's size can also be printed with the same design, so the sibling joins the family picture in a matching top.
