Middlesex traces its roots to 1878 and St Katharine's teacher-training college in Tottenham. Middlesex Polytechnic was formed in 1973 from a cluster of North London colleges — including the famous Hornsey College of Art, whose 1968 student sit-in made national history and whose alumni include Anish Kapoor and Ray Davies of The Kinks, and Enfield College of Technology, which stood just down the road from our own print room. University status followed in 1992, and today's Middlesex — around 15,000 students — is consolidated on its Hendon campus at The Burroughs, with a strong reputation in art, design, business and sport.
