What the Spec Actually Means
GSM is grams per square metre — the fabric's weight. At ~145gsm the SS12 sits in the classic everyday-tee zone: lighter and more breathable than a heavyweight 180–200gsm tee, but fully opaque and quick to dry — ideal for events, uniforms and giveaways. Ring-spun means the cotton fibres are twisted into a fine, smooth continuous thread (unlike coarser, fuzzier open-end cotton) — so the tee feels softer and gives the print a flatter, cleaner surface, keeping edges crisp and detail sharp. Belcoro® is Fruit of the Loom's branded ring-spun yarn.
DTF vs the Other Ways to Print a T-Shirt
| Method | Best for | Small runs | Big simple runs |
|---|---|---|---|
| DTF (what we do) | Full colour, photos, names, mixed designs, dark shirts | Excellent — no setup, no minimum | Good |
| Screen print | 24+ of the same simple 1–2 colour design | Poor (setup per colour) | Best value at volume |
| Vinyl (HTV) | Names, numbers, simple shapes | Good | Poor (weeding labour) |
| DTG | Photo detail on cotton | Good | Moderate |
| Sublimation | All-over prints — white polyester only | Good | Good |
Our honest steer: for 24+ of a simple one/two-colour design, screen print often works out cheaper per shirt — ask and we'll tell you straight. For everything else, DTF is the better tool. For the full deep-dive on how the methods compare, read our DTF vs Screen Printing vs DTG guide.
Artwork
Send a PNG with a transparent background at 300 DPI at print size, or a vector file (AI/EPS/PDF/SVG). Very bright neon screen colours can shift slightly in print — ask for a colour check if exact matching matters.
Wash Care
Wash inside out at 30°C, no fabric softener, no bleach, hang dry or tumble low, never iron directly on the print. Looked after properly, a DTF print typically lasts 50–100 washes — early fading almost always traces to hot washing, softener or tumble drying.
FAQs
What weight t-shirt is "good quality"? Weight is about purpose, not quality: 140–160gsm is the sweet spot for breathable everyday/event tees; 180–220gsm feels more structured for retail. A well-made 145gsm ring-spun tee outlasts a cheap heavyweight one.
