Why DL, and Why Uncoated?
DL (99 × 210mm) is exactly one-third of an A4 sheet, so it slips into a DL envelope unfolded and sits neatly on top of an A4 letter or brochure without hiding it. And compliment slips are meant to be written on — a quick "thanks", a signature, a note — so they're printed on uncoated stock, which takes pen ink cleanly. That's also why we don't laminate them: lamination seals the surface and most office pens won't write on it. Typical trade weights are 100gsm (standard) and 120gsm (premium).
Artwork Requirements
Supply a print-ready PDF in CMYK at 300 DPI with 3mm bleed. Keep the design light — logo, contact details and plenty of white space to write in. Colours print slightly softer on uncoated stock, which is normal and part of its natural look.
FAQs
Compliment slip or letterhead — what's the difference? A letterhead is a full A4 sheet for formal printed correspondence (letters, invoices, contracts). A compliment slip is a small DL note for a short, often handwritten message enclosed with a parcel or document — less formal, more personal, cheaper to produce as part of a matched set.
Are compliment slips still worth it? Yes — for any business that posts physical items. They add a branded, personal touch email can't, and keep your contact details in the recipient's hand.
What size is a compliment slip? DL, 99 × 210mm — a third of A4, fits a DL envelope unfolded.
Can I write on them? Yes — that's the point. The uncoated stock takes ballpoint and rollerball cleanly.
Are they laminated? No — lamination would stop them being writable.
Is there a recycled option? Yes, 100% recycled stock.
