People search for "Christmas jumpers" every autumn, and most of them mean the chunky knitted sweater with a reindeer on the front. This page is about something a little different: soft, warm hoodies with your own Christmas design printed on them. If you want a family of five in matching festive hoodies, an office team with a running joke on their chests, or a group of friends with a name on the back for the pub crawl, a printed hoodie is the practical way to do it.

Printed hoodies versus knitted jumpers
Let us be clear about what we make. We do not produce knitted jumpers with woven or stitched patterns. We print designs onto hoodies using DTF (direct to film) printing, where the artwork is printed onto a film and then transferred onto the fabric. The result is a flat, full colour image that sits on the surface of a plain jersey-style hoodie.
That difference brings real advantages. A printed hoodie can carry a photograph, a detailed illustration, a handwritten message or a company logo, none of which a knitted pattern handles well. It is also easy to personalise: every person in the group can have a different name, nickname or number while sharing the same main design. And a hoodie is comfortable indoors and out, which matters when the Christmas party is in a draughty village hall.
If somebody in your group insists on the full knitted look, a printed hoodie will not replicate it. If you are happy with the festive spirit rather than the wool, read on.
Who orders Christmas hoodies, and why
The most common groups are quite different from each other, and the planning differs too.
- Families: grandparents, parents and children in one design, often with names or "Nana", "Dad", "Little Elf" style labels. Group photos are the main purpose.
- Offices and teams: a shared design for the Christmas party, a charity day, or a dress-down Friday. The challenge is collecting sizes from many people.
- Friend groups: a joke slogan, an inside reference, or a Secret Santa outfit swap. Usually smaller numbers but more creative briefs.
- Clubs and societies: a team name plus festive twist for a social or a fundraiser.
You do not need a large number. A single hoodie is fine, and there is no minimum order. When you are ordering five or more items, a discount applies, which is worth knowing when you are deciding whether to invite the extra cousin.
Design ideas that work on a hoodie
Good group designs are simple enough to read from across a room. A few directions that tend to work well:
- A single bold phrase in a festive typeface, such as a family surname with "Christmas Crew" and the year.
- A themed illustration, like a row of cartoon snowmen, a robin on a branch, or a gingerbread figure, with the wearer's name underneath.
- A mock "team badge" style crest with the group name in a circle.
- A joke that suits the group, from office in-jokes to "Naughty list, certified by Santa".
- A photo-based design, for example a pet or a favourite family snap turned into a festive poster.
- Matching but varied: the same illustration for everyone, with a different role or title for each person.
Keep the wording short. Long sentences shrink to unreadable text on a chest print. Three to five words is a good target for a main slogan, with smaller supporting text for names.
If you are sending artwork rather than asking for help creating it, a clear high resolution image works best. Our guide to artwork and file preparation covers the details, and a message with your idea is enough to start if you have nothing ready.
Choosing hoodie colours
Colour changes how a print looks, so choose it with the design, not after it.
- Light designs with white or pale ink look rich on dark hoodies such as black, navy, bottle green or burgundy.
- Dark, detailed artwork suits lighter hoodies, though a white or grey hoodie will show every mark if worn all day, so think about the occasion.
- Red and green hoodies feel obviously festive, but check that your design colours do not clash with them. A red illustration on a red hoodie disappears.
- Mixing colours works well for families: parents in one shade, children in another, same print. It keeps the photo interesting without looking mismatched.
Colour on screen can differ from colour on fabric, so ask about the hoodie shade before you commit if a particular tone matters. It is also worth asking about the garments we can use for DTF; our page on the best t-shirts for DTF printing explains why fabric choice matters.
Print placement
Where the design sits changes the whole look.
- Centre chest: the classic. A medium-sized print sits well on both adult and children's hoodies.
- Left chest: a small crest or logo, good for offices who want something subtle.
- Full front: a large illustration or photograph. Be sure the hoodie's front pocket, if it has one, does not cut through important detail.
- Back: names, numbers or a team slogan. Back prints are handy for group photos where people are walking away or standing in a line.
- Sleeve: a small year, initial or festive icon adds a finishing touch.
If you want different people to have different placements, such as larger prints on adults and smaller ones on children, say so when you ask for a quote. A hoodie for a younger child needs a print scaled to the garment so it does not overwhelm them.
Sizing a group without chaos
Group orders go wrong most often over sizes. A sensible process saves a lot of grief.
1. Pick one person to collect everything and make decisions.
2. Send the group a size chart and ask people to measure a hoodie they already own and love, rather than guess.
3. Record names and sizes in one shared list, along with any names or slogans for printing.
4. Ask anyone between sizes to say whether they prefer snug or roomy. Hoodies tend to be worn loose, so many people go up a size for comfort.
5. Check the final list with the group before sending it. Spelling mistakes in names are the number one reason people feel disappointed.
For children, allow a little growing room, but not so much that the sleeves hang past their hands. If the wearer is likely to have a growth spurt before December, size up. Our sizes run up to 3XL, so mention early if you have anyone at the larger end of that range so we can check availability for the style you want.
Order early
Christmas is a fixed deadline, and everyone else in the country is thinking about it at the same moment. Printing for personalised items tends to get busier as December approaches, and proofs, changes and size confirmations all take time between people. We do not give fixed turnaround promises on this page, because it depends on the order. Ask for timing when you request a quote, and order early for any deadline, such as a party date or a family gathering.
A workable plan for a group order:
- Settle the idea and wording first.
- Collect sizes and names, then send them in one go.
- Look at the proof carefully. We show a proof before printing so you can check spelling, placement and colour.
- Only after the group agrees do you approve it.
Leaving a few spare days at the end to deal with problems is wiser than counting on everything going perfectly.
Looking after printed hoodies
A Christmas hoodie will probably be worn more than once, perhaps into the new year. Turn it inside out before washing, use a cool cycle, and avoid fabric softener and harsh bleach. Dry it gently and do not iron directly over the print. Our washing and caring guide goes through this in more detail.
Questions people ask
Can you make a knitted Christmas jumper?
No. We print onto hoodies using DTF printing, so the festive design is a printed image on the fabric rather than a knitted pattern. If you want something warm and personalised for a Christmas photo or party, a printed hoodie does the job well.
Do we all need the same design?
Not at all. Many groups use one shared design with different names, or two or three variations for adults and children. Just tell us what each person needs when you ask for a quote and we will set out the proof clearly.
How many hoodies do we need to order?
One is fine, because there is no minimum order. A discount applies on five or more items, so larger groups benefit, but you can just as easily order a couple of gifts.
Can we see what it looks like before it is printed?
Yes. A proof is shown before printing, so you can check spelling, size of print and position. Take your time over it, especially if there are many names involved.
What is the easiest way to ask for a quote?
Message us on WhatsApp, call, or email with your idea, the number of hoodies, colours and any sizes you have. A rough brief is fine, and we will reply with questions where we need more detail.
