UK Poster Sizes at a Glance
| Size | mm | Inches | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|
| A0 | 841 × 1189 | 33.1 × 46.8 | Exhibition and large-impact displays, viewed 2m+ |
| A1 | 594 × 841 | 23.4 × 33.1 | Shop windows and retail — maximum pavement draw |
| A2 | 420 × 594 | 16.5 × 23.4 | The versatile indoor/window workhorse |
| A3 | 297 × 420 | 11.7 × 16.5 | Counters, menus, close viewing |
Each step up doubles the area — A1 is twice A2, four times A3. For a shop window, A1 or A2 is the sweet spot for legibility from across the pavement. Full size chart on our UK print sizes guide.
Paper Weight (GSM) Explained
130–170gsm — general-purpose poster paper, fine for short-term indoor promos. 170–200gsm — the midpoint between paper and card: more rigid, richer colour, more premium in the hand. 200gsm+ — recommended for larger A1/A0 posters that would otherwise sag at the edges, and anything handled or displayed long-term. Rule of thumb: the bigger the poster and the longer it's up, the heavier the stock. More on paper weights in our GSM guide.
When Does Lamination Actually Help?
Lamination adds scuff and moisture resistance and deepens colour saturation — genuinely worth it for posters that get handled, hang near doorways, or stay up for months. The trade-off: gloss lamination adds glare under lights or in a sunny window; matte avoids the glare with slightly softer contrast. For a two-week indoor promo, lamination is usually unnecessary — we'll tell you straight when quoting.
Artwork
Print-ready PDF with 3mm bleed. Posters are viewed from a distance, so 150 DPI at full size prints beautifully (300 DPI is only needed for close-up viewing). Vector artwork scales to any size perfectly.
